How the calculation works
A hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of a file’s contents. Change one byte and the hash changes completely. The tool computes it in your browser using the Web Crypto API.
Frequently asked questions
How do I verify a download?
Compare the result with the hash published by the file’s source. If they match, the file is unchanged.
Which algorithm should I use?
SHA-256 is a good default. SHA-1 is older and only for legacy checks.
